Today is "King Chulalongkorn Day"

From the website of the Royal Thai Embassy in Singapore :
"23 October of every year is a national holiday in Thailand as it marks “King Chulalongkorn Day" or known in Thai as "Wan Piyamaharaj Day". It is the memorial day of the passing away of King Chulalongkorn, otherwise known as King Rama V." For more information see Royal Thai Embassy Singapore

And in our area that was celebrated this early morning with representatives from all villages from the tambon where we are living. That includes some Yao (Mien) hill-tribe villages. Well early morning was planned but we left 7:30am and while the ceremony had started already at 8:10 the last people would still arrive. There is a strict hierarchy with government officials at top and the common villagers at the bottom. And of course women and men are split into two groups.

If you click "CLICK HERE" you see some more photos I took. Also from the lovely dressed Yao / Mien villagers.
