Nan Memories at the "Wat Phra That Chae Haeng" in Nan
First I was not sure if it was really the "Wat Phra That Chae Heang". But some research did learn me that the buildings seen on the old photo are indeed still there. But due to all the trees you do not see that the Pagoda and temple building are still there nowadays. Looking to the Naga's head I would say there has been some restoration done.
The "Wat Phra That Chae Haeng" is probably build around 1355 and has a mix of Lanna & Thai Lue style. The temple was part of the former center of Nan province (after that it was moved from what we now call Pua). Currently the temple is about 3 km east of the city center. The temple is build on a small hill from where you have beautiful view over the valley of the Nan river.
This temple represents the Year Of The Rabbit and people born in the year of the Rabbit come there to pay respect (and gain good-luck). So it will be to no surprise that you will see many rabbits at the temple.
